It seems we're confused about what is what. So I proclaim a time for definitions.
Let's come to some consensus (or at least make the appearance of trying to, for debate's sake) on what capitalism, corporatism, communism, socialism, libertarianism, anarchism, and minarchism really mean. Other terms can, of course, also be defined.
If we're ever going to have a meaningful discussion between anarchists and libertarians (some of whom are probably both), we're going to need to have some base line to stand on. I can't see us having anything of value if one side is speaking Cantonese and the other is speaking Mandarin.
Speaking of Mandarin, I like oranges...
PS: Can someone other than me
please make a post? This is supposed to be a community, not my second blog. :p
Something I don't get
There's something I don't get about anarchism. I mean, anarchy is the absence of government, correct? It's pretty much the absence of power, with people free to do what they want, voluntarily engage in associations, etc. About the only source of law is mutual respect. But I see, constantly, anarchists endorsing socialism and communalism. Whoa whoa whoa. You're supposed to be free to engage in whatever associations you want, not be bunched together into a commune. Then there are the anarchists who want to destroy capitalism utterly. The only way I can understand this is that many are misusing the term "capitalism" for the modern situation, which is "corporatism". Just look at the thousands of thousands of regulations that cover commerce. (I highly doubt most first-world countries are that different from the US in this regard.) When people speak of capitalism committing various atrocities against humanity, and paint it in this evil color of murder and mayhem, I vomit a little inside.
So, in conclusion, I don't understand why so many anarchists endorse socialism, and in fact find that oxymoronic. Please, enlighten me as to why so many anarchists are collectivists and not individualists, and furthermore where so many people get such a distorted view of capitalism.
Welcome the Anarchists versus Libertarianism community. I am you host, Gary The Great.
